The Girl with the Goalden Boot

It's so damn hot today, I couldn't do anything. Usually I can put up with hot weather, but today, it was just unbearable. I tried sleeping, but I woke up because it was too hot. And I watched Futbol Mundial before watching some X-Files episodes (season 4) in my room. For the Philes: Do you think Leonard Betts really died in the explosion in the end?

I got accepted into the Infection & Immunity postgrad course at the University of Sydney. It's back to school again. Right now I've been entered in the Graduate Diploma program (because I didn't do Honours), but if I get 70 and above in all my first semester subjects, I can upgrade to the Masters program.

As I told Heather a few days ago, I'm looking for a new job already. Not that I don't like the place I currently work at - the people (supervisors included) and the hours are great, and I'm learning stuff, but it's boring/not challenging (no real hands-on lab work), it doesn't pay well at all, and I could do better (I didn't get a Bachelor's degree for nothing).

Remember how I was offered two jobs, and I took this current one (laboratory assistant) because the lab looked more professional and I thought I wouldn't get the other one? Well, I kind of wish I could turn back time and pick the other one. Firstly, the other one was a Scientific Officer job in a government lab. Which means that it's a job I should be doing because of my qualifications. Most of my current colleagues only have TAFE diplomas, and some of them don't want to study any further. Also, government labs actually pay more than private ones, as I've just painfully discovered! Currently I earn around $13.80 an hour - that's fucking less than working in retail, damnit! Lab assistant jobs in government labs start at $18 an hour. Therefore the Scienfic Officer job would pay at least $20 an hour.

I would've been doing something I'm supposed to be doing and earning more per hour! A good opportunity gone to waste. :
The only consoling thing to come out of this is that I couldn't have done 4 hours per day, 5 days per week because I'll be going to uni again.

Anyways. I applied to two places a few days ago. Both are Scientific Officer positions in Microbiology, which is my field. One is a night shift (5pm-1am) at a lab not too far from the place I currently work at (30 minute drive). Working such hours would allow me to go to uni. The other is a lab which is very, very close to home (5 minute drive!), but it is a trainee Scientifc Officer, although it is aimed at uni students too, so again, it would allow me to go to uni.

Wish me luck.

I thank my parents for making me take piano lessons as a kid. If I weren't a music teacher as well, I really wouldn't be able to make ends meet.

Onto football. SYDNEY FC ARE THROUGH TO THE FINALS! I couldn't watch much of the second half, I couldn't deal with the stress, lol! We held on to a 1-1 draw with 10 men, not too bad. There's so much work to do if we're going to defend the title this year. *shakes head* I want another marquee player!

I'm glad Liverpool beat Chelsea, because that means Man United have the chance to go 9 points ahead of Chelsea should we beat Arsenal tonight. Also, Harry aims to return to the squad in the Champions League match against Barca...can't wait!

Real's match kicks off 3 hours after United's. If we beat Mallorca (not exactly an easy opponent) we may be at the top of the table should Barca lose because Sevilla drew with Villareal. But I doubt Barca will lose.
