Gelukkig nieuwjaar!
What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? * Get a real, paid job. * Medical school interview. * Celebrate my birthday by playing football with people I met for the first time. * Do volunteer work at a nursing home. * Watch Sydney FC matches. * Drive to places far from home, like Parramatta and Ryde.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Yes. I did move around/exercise more, especially this month when I started ballet classes again.
Did anyone close to you give birth? No. But a few footballers close to my heart became dads for the first time this year! Ruud, Robin and Rio. Hee.
Did anyone close to you die? * My grandma. * My neighbour's cat (who I loved very much) Gizmo. * Peter Rabbit. That was the sad thing I didn't want to mention on Tonya's birthday. I'll write more about it after the new year.
What countries did you visit? Nowhere! No trips this year.
What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? * Be in a proper football competition. * Go back to university for further study.
What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? * July 30th: My birthday. The 7 against 7 football match against I'd only just met which went on for more than 3 hours. :P * Dec 1st: I started my first real job.
What was your biggest achievement of the year? * Getting a good score in the GAMSAT, because I did really shit the year before. * Getting my first real, paid job. * Learning how to use Photoshop.
What was your biggest failure? * Not getting into med school.
Did you suffer illness or injury? Yes, like now! This is the first time I got sick this year! :(
What was the best thing you bought? Football stuff! - * Socceroos jersey * Ruud's Holland jersey * Ruud's Real Madrid jersey * Last year's Man United jersey (haven't gotten a name on it yet) * "The Treasures of Manchester United" book * Rio My Story
Whose behavior merited celebration? My student, Jenny. She got an A+ last year for her 1st grade piano exam, so we decided that she'd do 3rd grade this year. She was heaps lazy in the first half of the year, I almost gave up on her, and had to get her mother to come on several occassions. But things picked up after she got a Highly Commended in an eisteddfod, and for her 3rd grade exam, she got an A.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Marco van Basten. Period.
Where did most of your money go? Football stuff.
What did you get really, really, really excited about? * The World Cup. * Ruud and Becks reunited at Real Madrid. * My first day of work.
What song will always remind you of 2006? Hips Don't Lie - Shakira
Compared to this time last year, are you... happier or sadder? Happier, because I'd achieved things this year I never thought I would've a year earlier. thinner or fatter? Thinner by 1kg, lol. richer or poorer? About the same.
What do you wish you'd done more of? * Play football. * Meet up with uni friends. * Travelling.
What do you wish you'd done less of? * Procrastinating. Should've done a bit more job hunting earlier in the year.
How will you be spending New Years Eve? There's less than 30 minutes of NYE left, hee. I went to a friend's place to play mahjong, and then we played Wii! (my arm aches!) Did alright in tennis and boxing, but totally sucked at bowling! Now I'm at home, waiting to watch the fireworks on tv with my parents. I promised my mum I'd spend new year with her.
Did you fall in love in 2006? Yeah, I fell in love with football again! But no, I didn't fall in love with any guy. Maybe my expectations are too high.
How many one-night stands? As if that'd happen anytime soon...lol
What was your favorite TV program? X-Files and Bleak House for sure. Also ER and Third Watch. And a bunch of football shows like ESPN Soccernet Press Pass and UEFA Champions League Magazine.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Cristiano Ronaldo? Haha. But I actually don't hate him so much anymore - the lad has matured quite a bit since the World Cup, and he's doing heaps well for Man United.
What was the best book you read? Rio My Story. I finished it in 3 days. I never read that fast! Except for The House of Mirth, which I read in about a week.
What was your greatest musical discovery? No major discovery this year.
What did you want and get? Ruud's Real Madrid jersey.
What was your favorite film of this year? Tristram Shandy was the only movie I watched at the cinemas this year, so it should be it.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? (for the third time...) My football match with people I'd met for the first time. I turned 22. I'm Arjen's age! :P
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Going to Germany to watch the World Cup. I don't think there'll ever be a year where so many of my favourite players are there, and of course, the Socceroos were there for the first time in about 30 years. Another reason is that I wasn't working or studying back in June (other than teaching, which I could've easily stopped for a month). I don't know when I'll get that opportunity again.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? Casual.
What kept you sane? God.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Gillian Anderson and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
What political issue stirred you the most? I'm not a very political person.
Who did you miss? * My cousins in Vancouver. I want to go there and hang out with them again! * Gizmo and Peter Rabbit. :(
Who were the best new people you met? Erikar, the girl I worked with in my previous unpaid lab job. We got along so well, getting to the dodgy lab every Thursday was so much fun, and we became really good friends in about a month.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: (can't think of any)
