The Girl with the Goalden Boot

I had one of the best birthdays in years! Sunday was a whole heap of fun. What's more amazing is that half the people who came were people I've either never met before, or met briefly at horseriding a few weeks ago. That's the magic of food and football. Nothing in the world can bring strangers together quite like these two things.

Lunch was at a Chinese restaurant, and was the usual congee, stir-fry noodles, soup noodles, steamed fish, dumplings...etc. That kind of stuff. It was so embarrassing when 18 people decided to sing happy birthday while we were cutting the cake (I wanted to hide under the table!). And then we were off to football.

The two hours indoors were planned, and we had so much fun we decided to drive to a nearby park and played until the sun set. LOL. It was soooo tiring because we didn't exactly play by the rules (no out, no offside, no freekicks/penalties). I think my team lost though, we had poor defence, and none of us were good enough keepers! Lola van Nistelrooy scored a few goals (and missed quite a few!), but felt she would have benefited from a better midfield. Typical. ;) Her best goal came when she found her form outdoors. The timing, the angle, everything was right about it. It was almost identical to her idol's World Cup goal. :)

Dinner wasn't planned either. Those of us who lived nearby proceeded to a local Japanese restaurant, where the birthday girl had her main course (she picked sashimi and sushi) for free, courtesy of the restaurant. And then she had to rush home to watch Bleak House.

The presents...

Philosophy strawberry milkshake body wash, Goofy DVDs, Adora handmade chocolates, Sesame Street perfume (I think my cousin bought that in Spain), jelly beans and Reese's, Voices from the FIFA World Cup CD, and birthday cards.

My friend Agnes got cakes for me (a few pieces were already eaten when the photo was taken, hee!).

Birthday present to myself.

Lola is a medical scientist, music teacher, hoping to be a forensic pathologist one day, Catholic, neat freak... She worships Dana Scully from The X-Files and Kay Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell's novels. And she loves football. (background by Kess)
