The Girl with the Goalden Boot

My grandma passed away in her sleep. At least she wasn't hooked up to tubes or anything in her final days. The nurses at the nursing home told us that Grandma had been sleeping a lot recently, which meant she knew her time was coming.

My dad was very upset when he first heard the news, he cried a bit. And he never cries. He and Grandma used to argue all the time about everything, and anything. It's true - we're most critical of the people we love most. My dad will be flying back to Hong Kong for the funeral and other arrangements, and I think my uncle (in Vancouver) may be too.

As will my brother. He and Grandma had quite a close relationship, despite being miles apart from each other. He visited Hong Kong more frequently than I did, and often took Grandma out for lunch or tea. He was older (by 4 years) when we left Hong Kong for Sydney, so he felt more connected to the place and people than I ever was, or could have.

I am sad, but I know Grandma is now in a better place. God will take care of her.
