thermodynamics, norepinephrine, metaphors, Raoult's law
I attended 5-10:30pm classes for the past 2 weeks. Medprep. At first, it felt like another round of uni lectures, because of the chem and biology. And I finally learnt physics for the first time...LOL. I've come this far into my science career without having to touch physics at all...can't avoid it any longer though. Somehow physical chemistry starts making sense, to the point that I'm explaining critical points and pV=nRT to people. Strange. ::eb::
And then the dreaded Reasoning and Social Sciences classes came. eeks! I'm a slow reader, and haven't written a reflective essay in 4 years. And now I have to write an essay a day until the GAMSAT so I can improve on my English lit skills. I'm sure you all know how much I love writing.
Medprep was fun. Initially I only knew 2 people, since I've seen them around before. Turned out they were also UNSW med science students, but different majors. And then I met 2 more guys from Sydney uni. I enjoyed learning from Karim (the lecturer), and listening to his stories from his med school and internship years.
Then came the interview skills workshop. Suddenly, everything seemed so real. I've been dreaming about it for so long. Seven years, in fact. Why do you want to be a doctor? Why did you choose this particular medical school? What do you know about rural health? If you were a GP and a known problematic drug-seeker came asking for a script for more narcotics, what would you do? If a mother refuses to consent and her 2-year-old child is dying, will you save the child because of your own morals, or let the child bleed to death because you've sworn by the hippocratic oath?
This is it. The real deal. It's exciting, stressful and nerve-wracking, but I love it.
"Well, medical school was the plan for a while actually...I just sort of got sidetracked." - Abby Lockhart, 2004.
