"don't want to sing!"

First of all, thanks to Ting for getting the cd for me (as always!), and Avi for mailing it to me. Thanks also to Stephie for her work with the imaging (you've made it!), and of course Case and the other guys for musically-decorating Kit's random thoughts.

Now the album. My mum didn't recognise Kit, and I guess if you're not a Kitcatten, you probably can't recognise her either. To be honest, I don't like the look itself, but I really do like the whole idea behind the look. Because that's her. (I can see how Madonna has influenced her.)

I won't post the lyrics to For My Girl, the fact that EVERYONE has beaten me to that! For My Girl can be quite a Carby song, as well as being a song dedicated to us (see how sweet she is?). It could have been Carter giving Abby encouragement to pursue her dreams to become a doctor. (Like when Carter tells Abby "You're gonna be a great doctor" in 'nicu' and "I never had a doubt in my mind" in 'Drive'). "It's not true that life gets more complicated/It's the people that got more screwed up" perfectly describes the people who disrupted Abby's path to her medical career and put her life on hold (her bipolar mum and brother, her ex-husband Richard, the not-so-understanding Luka, etc.) "The world's before me beyond that hill/The unknown is beckoning, daring me to try" and "This ain't goodbye/I'm just checking out" is like Carter flying to the Congo to work for Doctors Without Borders, and that he's not really dumping Abby, and he'll be back for her one day. "I hope you can be brave/And don't chicken out" is as if Carter is helping Abby battle alcoholism, quit smoking, and get rid of her "nothing good is ever going to happen to me" ways.

Gosh. Have I totally manipulated the meaning of the song? :T Ok...Jo! Let me know what you think (since you're the only one who watches ER and knows this song!).

However, the song which really caught my attention is track 1. Clever how "East Towards Saturn" in Canto (and perhaps Mando too) is almost phonetically identical to "don't want to sing"! It's a really honest song, and as I was listening, I felt like telling Kit, "Good for you, gal! I'm so happy for ya!" Breaking free from the almost intolerable Chinese pop scene at last! Besides that, the lyrics incoporated some of her most famous ballads – deng le you deng, xin tong, dong de and dan xin. Music-wise, I loved it! That relaxing, free, guitary stuff so often associated with Tanya. When I first played this cd, I thought, "Wow, did Tanya write this? How Tanya is this song?!" Oh how I wish Tanya composed for Kit! That would have been the perfect fairy tale ending...hehe...

I love Kit's drawings. Her drawings don't make me feel ashamed of my drawings. :P
