ONE WEEK DOWN, 27 TO GO

I feel so unorganised this year. I only renewed my student card today; and for 2 of my subjects, I have no idea what my prescribed texts are. It's day 5, and already I am falling asleep in lectures. Definitely not a good sign. I don't feel motivated. As scary as it sounds, sometimes I feel as if I'm beginning to lose interest in science. I have never purchased nor read a single article from New Scientist before (I'd rather read Vogue), I didn't take any general education course offered from Faculty of Science, I never watch science documentaries or read science books unless I must (eg. for research or studying), I read my lecture notes for the sake of passing exams and not out of interest... I'm more excited about explaining the difference between a minim and a crotchet to a 5 year old, than learning about bacteria. What's happening?

Maybe my mind's still on vacation. Maybe I'll enjoy my courses better once the initial "intro to the topic" stage has passed.

But the truth is, for the past 3 months, other than eating, sleeping and watching TV, I've really enjoyed all the artsy stuff I've been doing. Teaching piano, organising/playing/singing church music, writing down/rearranging dong de, doing ballet in the lounge room, studying about madrigals and operas and other vocal music since the 13th century, putting together different outfits/accessories for different occassions... That's the stuff I love. What I'm worried about is that it's risky to make a career out of it all, although I'm always reminded to "never say never" and to "dream".

*stares out into the distance*
