My mum has been to Japan THREE times! Once before she was married, and then twice with dad. She's been to many different places in Japan, but argh...she told me the names of the places in Cantonese and I dunno how to translate into English! :P (except Tokyo!) She has been to one of those volcanic places where there are hot springs, and she said something about the water being red. Hee, being the typical conservative Hongkonger she was, she didn't dare strip and jump into the spring! :P She said there was this trail you had to walk through to reach the spring, and even on that trail you couldn't wear any clothes. And of course, it was snowing, little fluffy snow, nothing major (unlike those big snow storms in the US or Europe). The guesthouse/cabin thingy (something like that, it wasn't a hotel) she stayed in was very traditional, like you had meals kneeling, and had to wear those Japanese clog-type slippers and even a kimono. Other than the countryside in Japan, mum's also been to Tokyo before, and she went to Disneyland too, hehe! Maybe my parents should take me to Japan this year? :)
Well...then again, there's also Taiwan. I've always wondered what Taiwan is like. I mean, I always hear about it, I have a few Taiwanese friends, Kit's been there heaps of times, and I have an impression that Taiwan is just like HK except you have to speak Mandarin, and you drive on the other side of the road. I'd like to see for myself what this territory is like, and of course, try out local food (I heard it's quite nice). My mum's been to Taiwan once many years ago, before she met dad. She not only went to Taipei, she also went to Kaoshiung and some other scenic places. Once she had to wake up at 4am to see the sun rise, hehe, and then to see the sun rise above the sea of clouds. Those seas of clouds seem so mystical to me, and I've only really seen it in the That Day That Night video clip. She also went to this cliff (I dunno the name of it), which is a major tourist attraction. I vaguely remember that this cliff was featured in At the Threshold of an Era, where the character Sunny Chan played jumped down. Perhaps we should do a trip to Taiwan this year instead, so I yet have another excuse to visit Singapore again, hehehehe.....cos I don't think there are direct flights from Sydney to Taipei, but I can't be sure.
I think travelling is in my blood, especially now. My mum, in her early twenties did a lot of travelling too. She's been to London (she went there to study nursing), Paris, Rome, Holland! Come to think of it, I think this time round I really shouldn't be selfish, and our whole family should take a trip to Vancouver (cos I needed to go to Singapore, which is the opposite direction...), so my mum can visit her sister (therefore my aunt and my cousin), my dad can visit his brother and sister (therefore more relatives), and I might get a chance to meet Joanna? :) Oh, by the way, Kit's been to Vancouver too. *grins*
