When making salads — BE SPONTANEOUS! Use whatever's at hand — mum's boiled eggs and potatoes, bottles of salad dressing purchased months ago, canned fish/meat, whatever's in the fridge... There's no need to follow recipes. Dump in whatever you THINK matches and wakes up your tastetbuds! Some examples: Thousand Island dressing isn't just for seafood, it's good for pasta salad too; who would've thought potates, egg and chilli tuna make a great salad? That was my brunch today! :P
