I've known Tu Quynh for about a year, but lately, I've come to realise what a special person she is.

Two weeks ago, she spotted me looking tired during our Friday morning microbiology lecture. In the evening, she gave me a phone call to check if I was alright, because she thought I was sick, and she got worried. I was very touched by that...because not many people do things like that. I know that I receive emails (sometimes letters) like that from some very special people (you know who you are!), but phone calls from people in Sydney, this was a first. It's a really wonderful feeling to know that somebody cares.

Just today, she decided to buy me ice cream, because she remembered that last October I bought her ice cream during the "buy 1 get 1 free" week. This time it was her who had a "buy 1 get 1 free" voucher, and I was really surprised she remembered my treat 5 months ago. :) And as always, I had a pack of Kit Kat with me, so I split it up and stuck one wafer in each of our ice creams...hehe...and made the ice creams look really cute!

Every time we head off to different classes, she gives everyone in the group a hug and a *moi* instead of just a conventional "bye". Quite a sweet gal!

What's even more powerful is Tu Quynh's optimism. She unfortunately failed biology last year, and this year she's unable to any of the 2nd year science subjects (because biology is a pre-requisite), except microbiology. Which means she has to repeat biology only next semester, and that means she needs an extra year to finish her medical science degree. But no, she hasn't given up, and she wasn't the tiniest bit depressed. She knew she had tried her very best. She was still in high spirits about continuing on, and did not complain or feel left out during our lunch breaks when we discussed our labs and things.

Well done, Tu Quynh! You're the type of person who inspires me, and leads me to believe tomorrow is a better day, and the next day will be even better! :)
