Oh, the power one radio interview can have on so many people...

I listened to the entire 100.3 interview of Tanya, and prior to that, I didn't really know much about Tanya, and haven't really heard her speak before. The only other time I really heard her speak was during one of Kit's interviews, as it was on the same day as Tanya's birthday and Kit and the DJ called Tanya while on air.

Tanya was so honest. She told the whole world her past, present and future. She revealed everything that went on in her mind, be it happiness, frustration, anger, sadness... she is so real. She discussed issues such as parent-children relationships, and told of her relationship with her mother. She talked about her friendships with her "production people", such as Adam and Eric. She mentioned they'd hang out till late at night after studio sessions and talk about stuff: "hey, life sucks..." etc. And the special guest was Eric, he appeared just when Tanya was saying that Eric was a "chao ah beng", hehe...because he'd wear tees and shorts and slippers and speaks Singlish. Then Tanya was trying to imitate him, but she cannot lah! Hahahaha!!! October was the month of UFM's birthday, so the DJ asked Tanya and Eric to sing the birthday song. Probably because it was midnight, they did a funny version with Tanya singing in B major while Eric was strumming in C major...hehe...initially Tanya just kept adjusting her pitch to Eric's pitch, until she had to resort earphones!

And of course, Tanya performed some of the songs from her new album. One particular song I really like is Drops of Jupiter...such a simple yet soothing song. Also, Tanya talked about the ideas behind each song in the album. Turned out that every song was "reflective". Tanya confessed that she was hopeless at lying, and she couldn't express herself in words all that well, so she uses her music to do just that. Oh yeah, when they started discussing the song Going to the Movies (or something like that, can't really remember the name), the talk got a bit naughty, hahaha!!!! The DJ was like "oooo...soil...mud" hahaha! Then Tanya was like, "We all want good sex..." hehe... Too late into the night! And also, Tanya said that her Chinese albums pays the bills for her English albums, and there isn't enough support for local English albums.

The most touching must definitely be the revelation of a bonus track in the new album. "If you know about this track, it shows you've been listening to my album." This track was so honest, and yes, another reflective one. Tanya felt lost, and was looking for God. She explained that God was the religious kind to her, it was more like He was someone out there...

After listening to Tanya for 2 whole hours, I realise how similar she was to Kit, yet very different to Kit. They speak the same way, like how both of them would break into English (except Tanya CONTINUES in English..hehe...poor thing, struggling with Chinese!), and even just the language used... Tanya: "I'm into music for the love of it, so I don't care if my English album doesn't do well, it was just something I wanted to do." That's exactly what Kit says about Dream Scape, since it wasn't the usual mainstream ballads. Tanya: "I've been with the same management for a long time, since they believed in me and stood by me..." Kit says exactly the same stuff about OBP, how they've been with her since day one. And just before the end of the interview, Tanya tells everyone: "May everyone be happy, and have your dreams realised." Here we go, the "dream" thing we always hear Kit go on about...Dreams...Cosmic Dreams...In a Purple Dream...Dreams and Memories...Dream Scape! :P

But one important difference. I think Kit is reluctant to let on more about her real self, more like we have to discover for ourselves what she really is like in real life...through her albums and poetry. Whereas Tanya is very straightforward. This difference got some of us Kitcattens thinking...
