Finally downloaded Kit's new song "Mystery". I must have listened to it about 10 times by now.
The lyrics – very simple, lots of repetition, and the actual lyrics go something like this: "Mystery...inside of me...in my dreams...will never leave me..." etc. The music – in the key of E natural minor (without raised 6th and 7th), or you could classify the key as the aolian mode starting on E. The melody itself centrals around the note B, and notes in the melody exclude F#. Instrumentation – interesting use of percussion (particularly the drumrolls on the snare), also I love how I get to play a part in the song...PIANO! :P The song itself doesn't follow conventional use of harmony (e.g. a verse ending on an imperfect cadence leading onto the tonic to begin the chorus). The choice of key and arrangement of the piano part depicts the dreamy-mysterious atmosphere well.
After typing all this out...who actually understands what I'm saying? I bet you Kit doesn't...hehe!
For those of you who managed to watch the TVBS program with Kit in it, has anyone noticed something? Some clips of the MTV of "Dreams" (I think that's the title of the song anyway...) were shown, and listen very carefully to the song "Dreams". It is actually a remix version of "Mystery", and in English instead of Chinese. I noticed the similarity in the use of percussion in both songs.
I gotta get to work now...teaching piano...
